NoFloods shields Viking Ship Museum From Storm Surge
Storm Malik, the strongest tempest to hit Denmark in six years, made landfall on January 29, 2022, raising concerns for central structures, notably cultural landmarks like the National Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. To safeguard against potential flooding, the museum deployed NoFloods water-filled flood barriers, a successful measure that prevented any damages.
The effectiveness of the barriers garnered widespread attention from national press media and television, resulting in a surge of visitors to the museum island, which remained well-protected by the deployed barriers. A pedestrian ladder facilitated access for visitors to the protected area of the island.
The solution employed a combination of NoFloods PRO barriers in Triple Tube and TwinTube configurations, along with NoFloods Semi-Pro barriers in two sections of 10 meters/30 ft each, and NoFloods Basic barriers positioned between columns. This versatile system effectively shielded the museum from potential floodwaters during the storm surge.
The water-filled flood barriers cater to a diverse range of users, including emergency agencies, companies, water boards, local authorities, hospitals, and more. These barriers have seen successful deployment in various locations worldwide, including Sweden, Norway, Italy, USA, France, Germany, Spain, and many others.
